🎛️What Metamer does
Live camera, seven ways of seeing
- Four color-blindness simulations and three daltonize filters, applied to the live feed in real time.
- A severity slider tunes each filter from 0 to 100%; every filter remembers its last setting.
- Freeze the frame to inspect colors or switch filters; compare two points for a ΔE76 color-difference verdict.
- Torch, front/back flip, and pinch zoom whose readout matches the system Camera; tap the zoom pill to hop lenses.
- Hardware keyboard on iPad: space to freeze, F to flip, R to reset zoom.
Color naming that tells the truth
- A movable reticle names the color under it from a 32-name palette (web, X11, and Okabe-Ito), with swatch and hex code.
- It samples the frame before the filter, so the readout stays the real-world color even while a simulation is on screen.
- Optional "Speak color names" reads the color aloud with on-device speech (off by default).
Gallery: filter the photos you already have
- Pick any photo, compare original and filtered side-by-side with lock-step zoom and pan, and tune the strength on the spot.
- Share as JPEG, HEIC, or match-source; EXIF is preserved, plus a small note of the filter applied.
Ishihara plate generator
- Digit, letter (up to 3 characters), or arrow plates, with confusion-line colors matched to each CVD type.
- Difficulty runs from a pure color test (100%) down to easier plates with a brightness cue.
- Export print-grade 300 DPI PNG or PDF with the plate's parameters embedded.
- A "Show answer" toggle reveals the hidden glyph, for users who can't read their own plates.
Quick color-vision check
- An optional three-step welcome checks each type with two plates; an axis is flagged only when both fail.
- Flagged axes get easier graded plates that estimate your starting filter strength.
- "I already know my color vision type" skips straight to a sensible default filter.
- It's a quick check, not a medical test: see an eye-care professional for a diagnosis.
Accessibility first
- Every screen works with VoiceOver; the reticle reads out the color name and hex as you move it.
- The filter bar leads with the daltonize filters for color-blind users, and with the simulations for everyone else.
- Dynamic Type, 44 pt touch targets, and Reduce Motion respected throughout.
Your data stays yours
- No servers, no accounts, no analytics: the camera feed never leaves your device.
- Photos are saved only when you tap Save, with your permission.
- Settings and the quick-check result live on your device alone. See the privacy policy.
Grounded in color science
Simulations use the Machado et al. (2009) matrices for protan and deutan and the two-plane Brettel et al. (1997) model for tritan; daltonization follows the Fidaner, Lin & Özgüven approach. Every still is rendered in linear sRGB, the same working space the models were derived in, so what you see matches the science rather than a too-dark approximation.
